Do not under-estimate this department store card or do not be deterred by those sales persons in Canadian Tire store who talk you into applying for one of this card. WHY?
- First off, with Canadiantire Mastercard (nowadays referred to as Triangle card) you can get more Canadian Tire Money on purchases
- If you successfully get approved for the World Elite version, you will get free Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance program
- You can further use the Roadside Assistance program membership to gain access to Perkopolis, which provides discounts on lots of brands and products
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, you can pay bills with Triangle Cards where no other credit card (afaik) could, typical payees include:
- Utility bills from your city
- Property tax bills from your city
- University Tuition Fees
- Life Insurance products premium
Usually for Property Tax and Utility bills, the only way to process payment is through pre-authorized payment on debit card (chequing account) where there is no cashback or benefit at all; however, Triangle Card will provide the option to pay these through their online portal, it works similar to online banking, only the payment is on the Triangle Credit Card where you can get Canadian Money for the payment amount. Here is how:
- After applying and receiving your card, register an account on ctfs.com
- Log in onto ctfs.com, click on “PAYMENTS” tab (first pic below)
- Click on “Manager Payees” to add your payees. (second pic below, current payee list can be found here)
- Enter the amount for each payee and submit your payment
- After a few days the payment should be processed and viewable in your property tax or other accounts
